Impact of Starlight Programs Helping Hospitalized Kids Suit Up!
• Help kids feel like their favorite heroes - Kids can take on traits of the heroes on their Starlight gowns, putting on bravery, courage, and strength like their favorite heroes.
• Protect kids and help them feel safe – One of the most stressful, vulnerable, and anxiety-inducing experiences for kids is changing out of their normal clothes into a hospital gown. Familiar characters and designs on Starlight Hospital Gowns are less threatening than typical gowns, providing comfort.
• Unlock imagination and play – Kids can be stuck in their hospital room for hours, days, and weeks with nothing to do in-between treatments and procedures. Starlight Toys and Gowns let kids play for fun, helping the time go by faster and allowing them to forget about their treatments for a little while.
• Build connection and community – Kids are often isolated from friends and family. Characters on gowns are conversation starters with peers and hospital staff, creating opportunities to connect with others. This has been especially meaningful during charity events where kids can bond over their favorite characters.
• A Growing Legacy: For the past four years, Starlight and Ghostbusters fan groups, including the South Dakota Ghostbusters cosplay group, have teamed up to raise $100K for hospitalized kids.
• National Reach, Local Impact: 68 hospitals have been impacted across 29 states.
• Ghostbusters-themed Starlight Hospital Gowns: Two official Ghostbusters-themed Starlight Hospital Gowns have been created, with 4,000 gowns funded and distributed so far.
• Ghostbusters Toys: Kids have received Ghostbusters toys through the Starlight Families program.
• Ecto-citing Hospital Visits: Hospital visits with local Ghostbusters groups and talent from the films, including actress Mckenna Grace and filmmakers Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, have made these experiences even more special.
